Bob Monette first joined political life in 1985 when he served on the Cumberland City Council for six years. Bob returned to serve on Council in January 2006 in a by-election and was then re-elected in November 2006.
Bob currently sits on the Planning and Environment committee, Agricultural and Rural Affairs committee, and the Police Services Board. He is a member of the Planning and Environment and Agricultural and Rural Affairs committees because he believes the proper growth and development are crucial to the future of the City of Ottawa. As well, justice and safety are a long time passion for Bob and as such he sits on the Police Services Board.
Bob’s long-term roots in our community include, Initial Chair and founding member, Cumberland Community Resource Center; Fundraising Manager, Ottawa Arthritis Society; former treasurer, Queenswood Heights Neighborhood Watch Association; Director, Queenswood Heights Community Association, Observer, Fallingbrook Community Association; and Elected Director, Central Canada Exhibition Association.
Bob, his wife Pat, and their three children have been residents of Queenswood Heights in Orléans for over 30 years.
Lansdowne Park is a wonderful piece of Ottawa that fell on hard times decades ago and has been left to decay while costing taxpayers over $4 million per year. Lansdowne has a rich 150 years of history as a fairground and exhibition place but most of all its heritage is as one of Canada's most celebrated landmarks for amateur and professional sports. It has played host to national curling championships,
national figure skating tournaments, world soccer championships, legendary Grey Cup victories, Memorial Cup wins by the Junior A Ottawa 67s and, near the turn of the last Century, it was even the place where Ottawa won a Stanley Cup.
But Lansdowne's buildings are rusting out. Its nearly 40 acres in the central part of the city are mostly crumbling asphalt - an embarrassment to the City of Ottawa.
Lansdowne needs a new lease on life.
We are working hard with our private partners, the NCC and Parks Canada to bring new life to Lansdowne: A real city park to replace the asphalt, new buildings with a variety of public and commercial uses that create a lively urban place, and a gracefully rebuilt
stadium for sports and concerts.
Cost matters.
The proposed Lansdowne Partnersip plan is by far the least expensive option for taxpayers. It is the least expensive way to deal with the Capital's outdoor stadium challenge and it is the least expensive way to fix Lansdowne.
The current plan results in no additional tax pressure for residents. All other options for the site and for the stadium would result in significant tax increases for you and me. Why? Simply because only the current Lansdowne plan produces revenue for the City to pay for the amenities that are being built. The element of restaurants, shops, office, residential and entertainment generates the new taxes and business revenue that fully pays for our share of our City's new gem.

-- Announcement comes on the eve of the first Canada GovCamp unconference to be held in Ottawa on May 31-June 1st at the University of Ottawa.
OTTAWA CITY HALL - In anticipation of the first Canada GovCamp unconference, set for May 31-June 1 at the University of Ottawa, Councillor Bob Monette announced his intentions to launch EASTENDCONNECTION.ca, an online public consultation forum for residents in the east end in an effort to break down barriers on cross-jurisdictional issues.
‘’There are so many cross jurisdictional issues among governments, such as the construction of a new interprovincial bridge, that residents get frustrated and don’t know who and how to communicate their opinions to politicians,” said Monette. “Once the logistics are figured out, I plan to work on a pilot project with other east-end Councillors, school board trustees, as well as provincial and federal representatives to set-up EASTENDCONNECTION.ca.”
Councillor Monette’s announcement comes as the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS) (http://www.cips.ca/) will be hosting the first Canada Gov Camp where participants will explore a number of topics associated with technology and government. This event is unique in that it has the ability to bring together government, industry and community leaders in a new forum to discuss the art of the possible on how they use technology to deliver services and interact with residents.
“Let’s in the spirit of GovCamp break those barriers on municipal-provincial-federal issues,” continued Monette. “We all have a responsibility as elected officials to work in collaboration in order to listen and better understand the needs of our communities – no matter what the issue.’’

About Canada GovCamp
The event is free of charge and follows the successful model established by www.changecamp.ca and is designed to foster a dialogue between thought leaders in the community, government and industry in a unique un-conference format where participants actually establish the agenda on the floor and explore themes that are of most interest to them. For example, wouldn’t it be great if you could call one number and be able to get an answer to government services regardless of which level provided it?
Canada Gov Camp is being hosted by the Canadian Association for Information Technology Professionals, sponsored by Microsoft Canada on behalf of the community.

Members of the public will be given an opportunity to provide input on the draft Study Design report (process and methodology) that will be used at Phase 2B, the Study’s concluding phase, to identify a recommended bridge crossing in the Region’s east end. The communities of Ottawa and Gatineau are invited to review information boards, consult with Study experts, and provide comment on the draft Study Design report, anytime between 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the following locations:
Ottawa |
Gatineau |
Tuesday, March 30, 2010 |
Wednesday, March 31, 2010 |
The Study is made up of two phases. Phase 1, which was completed in January 2009, looked at a number of corridors throughout the Region. Now at Phase 2, the Study is looking more closely at the three locations which received the highest ratings at Phase 1. The mandate of Phase 2A, the current stage, is to consult with members of the public and stakeholders to develop a Study Design and a Canadian Environmental Assessment Act Scoping Document. The Study Design will include a process and methodology that will be used at Phase 2B to identify a recommended crossing location. No decision on the bridge location will be taken at Phase 2A. This Study is being led by the funding partnership of the National Capital Commission (NCC), the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and the ministère des Transports du Québec (MTQ). It is being guided by a Study Team consisting of the funding partners and the cities of Ottawa and Gatineau. A consultant team lead by Co-Enterprise AECOM-Delcan has been retained for Phase 2A. I’m hosting a public meeting on a topic, which has been a concern of many residents in my area; you specifically have contacted me about Green Bins with questions and concerns.
I am hosting public open house on Feb 25th, 2010 about the Green Bin Program.
Over the last months I have had many requests answer questions about this program especially during our 2010 Budget consultations, I requested this meeting to help facilitate those questions. There will be two presentations one by City Staff detailing the program and its history and one by Orgaworld detailing their part in the composting procedure.
After the presentation, the floor will be opened up for questions about the program, its inception and the composting process. This meeting though only is to have your questions answered and not to attack either city staff or Orgaworld, I realize that some people do not agree with the program, myself included however this meeting is for questions.
DATE: Feb 25th, 2010
TIME: 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm
WHERE: Shenkman Arts Center
Black Box Theatre
If you still have questions or wish to make comments about the Green Bin please attend and I hope to see you there.

I want to personally thank Lionel Laurin from Ace Body Shop for helping to advance the cow issue to get to where it is it today. It wouldn't have gotten to this stage without his help and without the support of the community.

The City of Ottawa budget was passed on Jan 28, 2010, with some very good news for the residents in the East End. The budget debate this year was long and drawn out, starting in early December.
The Audit, Finance, and Budget committee originally recommended that there be 3 million dollars of cuts be made to OC Transpo routes, which would have drastically cut your service in Orléans. I couldn’t support any more cuts to your service, especially after the recent strike and service changes to the routes made during the Transplan 2009. I am very happy to say that there will be no further changes to your routes and services. I fought to have these cuts put back into the budget, which they were.
The second large item I have worked on during this budget is 6 million dollars for the Trim Rd. realignment. This money will not only help Trim Rd. but will enable the City to start work on parks 18A and B this year. This park is 5 years behind schedule and was not slated to be built until 2016. The projected time frame for completion is 2013.
The park and road is interconnected and I am ecstatic that this project has been moved up by 3 years. I would like to thank the Cardinal Creek Community Association for their help with this development; by working collaboratively we were able to see this projected advanced.
If you have questions about the budget please let me know.
